Among the eminent carmakers of the world Toyota Motors holds a prominent place. The Japanese carmaker has produced a series of highly sophisticated and innovative cars that have won accolades both from the critics as well as buyers. One segment of the company is known as Toyota Racing Development or TRD. This subsidiary of Toyota manages the work of design, production and marketing of several Toyota cars. This division is partnered with Toyota Motorsports. TRD is responsible for making different automobile parts for Toyota cars such as TRD rims, TRD wheels as well as TRD Exhaust. The various parts of TRD are L-tuned, Kazuma and TRD Sport Parts. The former deals with a luxury brand of Toyota named Lexus. The second one deals with the specialized racing parts disbursement wing. The last variant is the regular section. Among Toyota’s most popular cars, the MR2 deserves special mention. The MR2 TRD has been instrumental in making the car popular worldwide. This made possible the introduction of new versions.
The MR2 is a sports car made by Toyota that debuted in 1984. It had come to the market in 3 distinct design series. The Toyota MR2 Spyder was sold in the USA, while in Europe the available version was Toyota MR2 Roadster. It was marketed in Japan as the Toyota MR-S. The MR2 was conceived by an engineer from Lotus. The car resembled the exotic sports vehicles because of its dimension. The MR2 had undergone several makeovers which had been made possible by MR2 TRD.
The second generation of the MR2 received an extensive overhaul and got a better body than the first generation cars. It had noticeable resemblances with some models of Ferrari. The MR2 TRD fitted the SW20 models with three distinct engines. In nations like the USA the car was made available in a variety of roof types. To counter some of the flak that the second version received from the critics, the MR2 TRD made alterations to the car’s back suspension and tires. The third incarnation of the MR2 was aimed at road racing. Among the most notable changes were the weight, the transmission and the implementation of a turbocharger.
Due to increased competition and change in the buyer’s choice, Toyota stopped the production of the MR2. However it remains a milestone in the history of the company. The credit goes to MR2 TRD for coming up with innovative changes in the car’s design and ergonomics that made it an international favorite over 3 decades.
